La iglesia y De Juana Chaos.(Spanish and English article)

Sin ponerme a valorar la decisión de los jueces sobre la situación penal del etarra De Juana Chaos, si que me gustaría conocer la postura de la iglesia sobre el tema. La iglesia siempre se ha pronunciado a favor de la vida y condena todo tipo de muerte que puede ser evitada ya sea el aborto, el suicidio, la eutanasia, etcétera. Sin embargo, hasta ahora, que yo sepa , no se ha pronunciado sobre la situación del etarra. Cuando hay un embarazo no deseado, incluso fruto de una violación o con grave riesgo para la madre y donde el aborto se presenta como una posibilidad, en situaciones donde se ha planteado la eutanasia como vía para poner fin al sufrimiento de una persona, que siendo consciente de su estado pide morir dignamente, o en la decisión personal y unilateral de una persona de quitarse la vida, la iglesia manifiesta su más absoluto rechazo y oposición. Aún considerando que la situación del etarra De Juana Chaos es fruto de su decisión personal y no se podría englobar en ninguno de los supuestos anteriormente mencionados, pero teniendo en cuenta su evidente deterioro físico y la posibilidad cada día más cierta de su muerte, evitable sin duda, me pregunto si la iglesia no tiene nada que decir al respecto.
Cuando nos tienen acostumbrados a inmiscuirse en la mayoría de aspectos terrenales, mucho de los cuales no tienen nada que ver con su labor eclesiástica y sus más altos jerarcas se han manifestado en las calles, no para pedir más ayuda para combatir el hambre o el sida en África ,sino para mostrar su descontento con determinadas decisiones políticas realizadas por un gobierno democráticamente elegido, llama por lo menos la atención su silencio ante esta situación.

The Catholic Church and de Juana Chaos

It’s not my intention to analyse the decision made by judges about the legal situation of ETA member De Juana Chaos, but It would be very interesting to know the position of the Catholic Church about this issue. The Catholic Church has always expressed its opinion defending life and condemning any avoidable death such as: abortion, suicide, euthanasia, etc. However, up to today, as far as I know, it hasn’t said a word about the situation of the ETA member. When a woman is pregnant, even if she was raped or there is a risk to her health and abortion is a possibility; in situations where euthanasia has been contemplated to put an end to the suffering of a person who consciously asks for it, or in the personal and unilateral decision of a person who decides to commit suicide, the Catholic Church has always opposed it. It is very clear that the situation of the ETA member De Juana Chaos is the product of his personal decision (he’s been on a hunger strike for more than two months) and it doesn’t qualify as any of the situations mentioned before. Keeping in mind that his physical situation is getting worse, with a reasonable possibility of an imminent death, that could be avoidable, I wonder if the Catholic Church has anything to say about it.
When we are used to see the Catholic Church interfering in earthly issues, many of which are out of its ecclesiastical competencies and some of its bishops have participated in different demonstrations, not to ask for more help to fight against starvation or AIDS in Africa, but to show their disagreement with some political decisions made by a democratically elected government, this silence needs, at least, to be mentioned.
